Halloween grew out of Samhain, the Celtic festival that marked the end of the harvest on the night of 31 October. Its games used the harvest's apples and nuts to tell fortunes, which is where bobbing for apples comes from. The pumpkin spice latte is far newer: Starbucks first poured it in October 2003.
